Sermorelin care · field notes
Get the name.
Then check the record.
The website where a visit starts may not be the place that makes the medicine. Get the actual pharmacy or facility’s name.
Compounding is the pharmacy’s work of preparing medicine to order.
FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration, the agency that oversees medicines in the US.
A larger facility is a place that makes medicines in batches: many doses prepared together, often for clinics or hospitals.

What do I check once I have the pharmacy’s name?
Why this matters
A pharmacy’s name lets you look up its licence. A seal or logo on a website does not give you enough information for that check.
| The question | What it can mean | What it does not mean |
|---|---|---|
| State licence | The state has licensed the pharmacy. | A licence alone does not prove that every medicine is given out properly. |
| FDA registration | As of September 2026, a business that makes medicine can choose to sign up with FDA under the rules for larger facilities. | As of September 2026, a facility and its drugs do not gain approval through FDA registration. |
| Pharmacy-made | A medicine has been prepared through compounding. | As of September 2026, compounding does not make a product FDA-approved. |
Use the public licence record
FDA’s pharmacy lookup links to each state’s searchable list of pharmacy licences.
FDA advises against using a pharmacy that does not appear in the relevant state’s licence record.
Most states also require a pharmacy based elsewhere to hold a permit or licence before sending medicine into the patient’s state.
Open the state pharmacy lookupMatch the name you were given with the state’s record. If the names differ, ask why. Ask for proof that the pharmacy can send medicine to your state.
The rules for a regular pharmacy
As of September 2026, the rules called 503A cover a regular pharmacy making medicine for a patient named on a valid prescription.
That number is the section of federal law, not a quality rating.
As of September 2026, a regular pharmacy may be able to make sermorelin acetate because that ingredient was used in an old approved drug.
Acetate identifies the exact form of the sermorelin ingredient used in that drug.
The ingredient must be supplied by a maker registered with FDA, together with a report of the raw ingredient’s test results.
The pharmacy must meet any standards for that ingredient and any extra state rules.
FDA has not said by name that a regular pharmacy may make sermorelin; this is a reading of its documents.
Ask the pharmacist to explain how the prescription, ingredient and pharmacy meet these conditions for your state.
The rules for a larger facility
As of September 2026, the rules called 503B let a facility signed up with FDA make many doses without a prescription naming each patient.
A facility following those rules need not be a licensed pharmacy.
It must follow the same rules for making and checking medicine as a drug factory, and FDA inspects it.
FDA is still reviewing sermorelin acetate for those facilities; as of September 2026, it is not on their final allowed-ingredient list.
While that review continues, FDA says it does not plan to take action against a facility using this ingredient if it meets the policy’s conditions.
That policy does not establish FDA approval for the medicine or show that your medicine meets every rule.
Ask the pharmacist for the facility’s name and proof it has signed up with FDA. Ask how it meets the policy linked below. Being on a list alone cannot answer that for your medicine.
Making batches under these rules does not mean you can receive a prescription medicine without a valid prescription.
Before anything is sent
- Which pharmacy prepares the product, and which one sends it?
- Can I speak with its licensed pharmacist?
- What written storage and handling instructions come with it?
- What happens if the package is damaged or the label does not match the order?
A single storage rule cannot cover all medicines of this kind.
Storage instructions depend on the particular medicine and its label or pharmacy instructions.
